Start with the Foundation

Experts have concluded that the failure in elementary education is a result of poor preparation for learning and the school environment during the pre-school years. Drop-out rates are 5 times higher in grade 1 than in later grades. Therefore, pre-school and day-care learning success is key to reducing drop-out rates and facilitating life long learning.

Provide Access to Early Education

Nearly 1 in 4 Barangay do not have day-care facilities nor organized pre-school classes. Local governments are struggling to develop adequate facilities to reach all children by 2009. This will require the establishment of 9800 day-care centers.

Facilitate Learning

A teacher armed with only a blackboard can achieve but little. Teachers need storybooks, exercise materials and implements to stimulate cognitive development. Children need exercise materials to develop their skills and improve their self esteem. Such materials are very rare and widely shared in most day-care centers and pre-schools. Poor families struggle to provide such learning materials. A well equipped teacher can facilitate learning even sitting on the floor or under a tree (in the shade when not raining)!!
